Trip Introduction

Ever wondered how the hollywood celebrities with a certain status feel to be on a private island of their own? The closest to that divine feeling of bliss on a deserted island for the common man, as per my experience, was in Nov 2009 when I stayed at Devbagh Beach Resort (part of the Jungle Lodges hospitality chain).

Devbagh Beach

Life(Here maybe the Chairs) is Calling! Where are You?

The resort is situated on an island (well technically it's a peninsula but is as cut-off as an island since the thin sand bank connecting to the mainland stays under water at low tide) surrounded by the river Kali and the Arabian sea which makes the location absolutely serene and idyllic. A short motor boat trip is provided from the jetty point and is the only access to the exclusive resort on the island. The spacious log huts and cottages are perfectly located a midst the woods with all the amenities adequate enough to keep you cozy and comfortable and yet detached from the materialistic distractions like television. Believe me, it's a blessing not to have a TV there especially when the beach is at a walking distance and can be seen from your balcony and all you can hear is the sound of the waves and the chirping of birds.

Devbagh Beach Sunset

How freaking wonderful it is to see a big ball of fire, melt into the Ocean?

Simple Living, High Thinking

The main highlight is definitely the pristine and private beach only meant for the guests and at many times we were the only ones on the beach and felt like as if the whole place belong to ourselves. It's a truly virgin, extremely clean and very well maintained beach which I guess is a rare find in India. The resort also arranges a barbeque on the beach in the evening and serves snacks and sets up a bar right there (except drinks which are very reasonably priced rest is included in the tariff). It's a sheer delight to simply watch the divine sunset and the waves alongside bonfire, barbeque and beer.

Lots of things to do when in Devbagh

Walking on the beach, roaming aimlessly in the woods, just lazing on a hammock and gazing the restless waves in sea, elevates one to an altogether different tangent of tranquility. Nothing can beat that feeling and the whole raw natural setting makes it a perfect place to relax and unwind.

A Walk In The Woods

Further, activities like nature walk in the forest and dolphin watching boat ride are arranged daily morning and included in the tariff.  You may also choose from a plenty of watersport options like parasailing, kayaking, banana boat ride, water scooter ride etc are also available as per weather conditions but not included in the package.

     water sports activities

The resort has an open-to-sides gazebo (Gol Ghar) for guests dining. The buffet meals served in the dining hut during lunch and on the beachside at night with campfire were absolutely fantastic. The food was homely and freshly cooked and really a treat for our taste buds. We stayed there for a week and every single meal (breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner) on each day was just amazing.

The hospitality staff is extremely warm and courteous and are always ready to help. They'll genuinely try really hard to not just make your stay comfortable and completely hassle free but also ensure that you are having the best time of your life. They are willing to go out of their way whether it's to cook the food again when you are late inspite of repeated follow-ups or to arrange private mini-dining area on the beach. The services provided were truly class apart.
